£775k boost for safety upgrades at major A6 junction
Improvements are set to be made to a major junction on the A6 thanks to funds from developers.
Councillors approved £775,000 of Section 106 expenditure at the council’s Property and Regeneration Briefing on Monday 23 February.

The money will be spent on improvements at Cleggs Lane/Armitage Avenue and the A6 Manchester Road in the Walkden North and Little Hulton wards.
The funding comes from Section 106 contributions — financial payments made by developers to help offset the impact of new developments on local services, facilities and infrastructure.
These contributions were secured from the Logistics North development at the former Cutacre opencast mining site to the south of the A6.
Councillor Jack Youd, Deputy City Mayor and Lead Member for Finance, Support Services and Regeneration at Salford City Council said: “The junction sits on a key bus corridor and cycling route, and it’s an area with a high level of footfall. There have been a number of recorded collisions, and residents have told us they want it to be made safer, so I’m pleased we’ve been able to allocate this money.
“The plan is to improve the current layout by widening the pavement at key points and making the area safer for people walking and cycling. The traffic lights will also be upgraded so pedestrians can cross in one go without stopping in the middle. New cycling facilities, including shared paths and toucan crossings, will let cyclists use the crossings or move ahead using the advanced stop line at the lights.”
