Agecroft Cemetery open as normal after water leak

The council would like to reassure the public that Agecroft Cemetery is fully open, accessible and services are continuing as normal.

Officers have been receiving calls from concerned members of the public after a water leak, which has meant that Langley Road South has had to be closed.

United Utilities are dealing with the leak and the road closure is set to be in place for 7 to 10 days. Due to the road closure, diversions are in place.

Agecroft Cemetery remains open and access is through the normal entrance on Langley Road – but not via the Agecroft Road way.

A major clean-up operation was swiftly carried out after flooding within the cemetery. All water and debris have now been removed.

Only 10 graves or memorials sustained minor damage, and officers are arranging repairs while contacting affected families. If you are not contacted, you can be assured that your loved one's grave or memorial was not impacted.

Councillor Barbara Bentham, Lead Member for Neighbourhoods, Environment and Community Safety at Salford City Council said: “We just want to reassure people that the cemetery is open and operating as normal as we have been receiving a lot of calls of concern.

“We will keep people informed as the leak is dealt with and continue to provide further updates.”
