Salford City Council is spreading festive cheer once again by offering free parking at selected pay and display car parks in the lead-up to Christmas.

The initiative aims to support local businesses and make it easier for residents and visitors to explore  and enjoy Salford’s shops, cafés, restaurants and landmarks during the Christmas season. Residents and visitors can take advantage of free parking on Saturday 6, 13, and 20 December.

The scheme is designed to boost high street shopping and encourage people to go local, helping small businesses thrive during the busiest time of year. Saturday 6 December also coincides with Small Business Saturday, and the council will be giving an extra push on social media to promote shopping with local businesses.

Head to the affectionately known ‘Monton Carlo’ by locals, where Monton high street features many independent outlets and is a foodie heaven with plenty of options to tempt you. Park at Hankinson Way and discover big brands at Salford Shopping Centre, a longstanding focal hub for the local community. As its regeneration gathers pace, take a trip to Eccles with a strong independent food and drink offer at the top of Church Street and sample a traditional Eccles Cake! And for a chance to see Santa and his helpful elves while you shop on Saturday’s during December, head to Swinton Square where there’s also the chance to win a £100 gift card to spend at the local outlets.
