New employers commit to Salford City Mayor’s Charter
Four organisations have recently committed to support the Salford City Mayor’s Charter, a growing movement of employers committed to fairness, inclusivity, and opportunity for all.
Lagan’s Healthcare, We Are Footprint, Innovation Unit, and LAR have all signed up, joining a network of businesses that are helping to shape a stronger, fairer local economy.
The Charter is a commitment to being a good employer, whether that is paying the Real Living Wage, supporting local recruitment or creating inclusive workplaces. Committed supporters have undergone an application process to ensure the work they do will contribute to making Salford a place where good work thrives.
Here’s how our newest supporters are making a difference:
Lagan’s Healthcare
A leader in immersive, virtual reality-based training for care professionals, Lagan’s Healthcare is raising standards and confidence across the care sector. They’re not only paying well above the Real Living Wage, but also actively recruiting through Salford channels, opening doors for local residents to grow with the business.
Their sister organisation, Lagan’s Foundation, is already Real Living Wage accredited, showing a deep-rooted commitment to fair pay and opportunity.
We Are Footprint
This social enterprise recruiter is all about local impact. Working closely with construction contractors, they ensure local people benefit from job opportunities on major schemes. They also dedicate time each week to schools and colleges (including in Salford) to inspire the next generation of construction professionals. They are also proudly Real Living Wage accredited.
Innovation Unit
Already employing team members from Salford, Innovation Unit is doubling down on local recruitment. Their aim is to tackle inequalities, build a more diverse team, and become a Disability Confident advocate in addition to their Real Living Wage accreditation and commitment to inclusive growth.
LAR
LAR is creating real change for people facing barriers to work. In late 2024, they recruited five prison leavers and veterans, offering full training and mentoring support. While asbestos regulations limit formal apprenticeships, they provide hands-on experience, placements, and knowledge-sharing in construction and environmental roles. They’re also working toward Real Living Wage accreditation.
Why should employers support the Charter?
Employers who support the Charter benefit from:
- stronger local recruitment pipelines
- support with inclusive employment practices
- recognition for making Salford a good place to work
- opportunities to collaborate with like-minded organisations
