Planet 100 – shaping a greener future for Salford together
- A dynamic programme of sustainability focused events and training to inspire a greener future for the city.
- The council is inviting organisations to shape the Planet 100 programme.
- “A strong, citywide approach, driven by shared purpose, is essential.”

As Salford celebrates its centenary year, Planet 100 will bring a dynamic programme of sustainability focused events and training to inspire a greener future for the city. The initiative champions fresh thinking and innovative partnerships, driving meaningful, long term change toward a cleaner and more sustainable Salford.
In 2026, Salford City Council and the City Mayor continue to prioritise climate change as a cornerstone of the This is our Salford Corporate Plan 2024–2028. This ongoing priority recognises the critical need for accelerated efforts to combat climate breakdown, and ensure the city is building long-term resilience against environmental challenges and impacts within Salford.
As part of the new programme, the council is inviting organisations to shape the Planet 100 programme by sharing business event ideas, hosting sustainability-themed webinars, or face-to-face training sessions.
The programme focuses on ten key themes of sustainability engagement to drive environmental action.
1. Energy
2. Transport
3. Circular economy
4. Buildings
5. Training and green skills
6. Leadership and changemakers
7. Procurement and social value
8. Nature
9. Business support and innovation
10. Climate change adaptation
Working closely with communities, businesses and partners through the city’s Climate Action Board, Salford is doing many things to help put the city on a path to reduce its carbon footprint. From solar farms and zero emission buses, to e-scooters, ground breaking low-carbon housing developments and even Europe’s biggest living green wall.
While these milestones represent significant progress in reducing the city's carbon footprint, there is more long-term work required to achieve a net-zero target.
Councillor Teresa Pepper, Lead Member for Skills and Work and Business Support at Salford City Council, said:
“There is already a significant amount of work underway in Salford to reduce the city’s carbon footprint. But lasting impact depends on collective action, and everyone has an important role to play. A strong, citywide approach, driven by shared purpose, is essential to ensure the decisions we make today protect and benefit both current and future generations.
“In 2026, the Planet 100 initiative offers a powerful opportunity for the business community across Salford to accelerate environmental action and strengthen long term climate resilience. To support the city’s commitment to becoming carbon neutral, I’d encourage organisations to come forward with event ideas, sustainability themed webinars, or in person training sessions that can help drive progress towards our net zero ambitions.”
