Residents reminded to renew their postal vote

Salford City Council is contacting 31,000 residents whose postal votes are up for renewal before 31 January 2026 with details of how to renew.

Under new rules brought in by the Elections Act 2022, postal vote arrangements cannot last longer than three years. If a postal vote was set up before October 2023, it will need renewing by submitting a new application before the deadline.

Postal voters are urged to look out for a letter or email from Salford’s elections team and respond as soon as possible.  Although there aren't any scheduled elections until May 2026, it’s important that residents who prefer to vote from home continue to have their say.

Postal votes can be renewed online with your national insurance number and a digital photo of your handwritten signature. It’s quick and easy for voters to renew online as well as making it easier and more cost effective for elections team to process applications. It only takes them one minute to process an online postal vote application compared to eight minutes for a paper version. Paper forms can still be posted out on request

Visit the GOV UK website or search for ‘Apply for postal vote UK’ to access the application website.
