Salford City Council celebrates GCSE results improvement
Salford City Council and Salford secondary schools are celebrating improvement across a range of key GCSEs measures in 2025.
Performance is assessed nationally across eight different subjects, known as the Attainment 8 measure.
The number of young people achieving grade four in both English and Maths has risen by nine per cent since 2019 and four per cent since 2024.
This improvement is ranked as the third highest across the country and means an additional 215 young people every year can broaden their future academic and career opportunities.
Salford secondary schools achieved 1.2 points of improvement compared to 2024 and 3.5 points compared to 2019.
This means one in every three grades is higher than it would have been in 2019.
Attainment 8 in Salford was the 12th most improved across all council areas in the country.
The improvement in results is linked to work the council is carrying out with schools and partners. This includes an attendance strategy which was launched in 2024, additional investment in school improvement and the development of a Salford Literacy Hub in partnership with the National Literacy Trust.
Councillor Jim Cammell, Lead Member for Children’s and Young People’s Services said: “The latest figures for 2019 to 2025 show our schools are doing a great job of helping young people to develop and achieve well at GCSE which we know will stand them in great stead in their future lives. We work closely with schools to give them the support they need to give Salford children a high quality education.
“This is part of our work for a Child Friendly Salford. This means making Salford a great place for children and young people to grow up and feel safe, cared for, heard and have quality opportunities to learn, work and play.”
