Salford Foster Carers star in videos to encourage fostering
Foster carers with Salford City Council are starring in videos as part of Foster Care Fortnight (12 to 25 May), to encourage more people to become carers, highlight all the support and explain how fostering works.
Some of the carers have quizzed Lead Member for Children’s and Young People’s services Councillor Jim Cammell who answers common questions people have.
Carers will also be celebrated at a Foster Carer Awards event on Monday 19 May to recognise the fantastic work carers do in opening their homes to provide love, stability, and care to children and young people in need.
There will be 17 carers at the awards who have together given 330 years of care and support to cared for children in Salford!
The annual awards are held to recognise and praise the commitment and achievements of Salford foster carers. Awards are being given to 38 carers for long service, ranging from five to 30 years. There will also be two special awards, which are newcomer of the year and a dedication to fostering.
Councillor Jim Cammell, Lead Member for Children’s and Young People’s Services, said: “Foster Care Fortnight is a time that we really look forward to each year because we can hear about and celebrate all the vital care our amazing carers give each day for vulnerable children so they can have positive futures. Our carers and our Foster for Salford team, go above and beyond to support and give back to our local community and our most vulnerable young people. Salford, like the rest of the UK, urgently needs more foster carers to ensure every child can be matched with the right home for their individual needs. So we hope other people will be inspired to become foster carers.”
The council is supporting The Fostering Network’s Foster Care Fortnight annual campaign to raise awareness of the incredible impact of foster care, and to inspire more people to consider becoming foster carers. It’s also a chance to say a big thank you to all foster carers for their remarkable dedication.
This year’s theme, ‘The Power of Relationships’, celebrates the meaningful connections that transform lives. Throughout the fortnight, voices from across the fostering community will be sharing stories of the powerful relationships that make a difference every day - from the bond between a foster carer and a child, to the vital support of social workers, friendships within the fostering community or the connections with birth families. These relationships shape lives, create stability, and open up new possibilities for the future.
