Salford’s foster carers have been celebrated for their extraordinary commitment and care at a special awards ceremony hosted by the council on Monday 19 May 2025.

From those just starting their fostering journey to carers who have opened their homes to children for more than three decades, the event recognised the outstanding dedication of every single foster carer in the city.

Hosted by Salford’s fostering service, the awards included speeches from the Right Worshipful the Ceremonial Mayor of the City of Salford, Councillor Tanya Burch, Councillor Jim Cammell and Councillor Teresa Pepper. Together, they helped present a range of long service and special recognition awards.

Councillor Jim Cammell Lead Member for Children’s and Young People’s Services:

" Fostering is a full-time commitment that takes patience, strength and a genuine desire to support young people. We’re proud to celebrate all of our carers who continue to change lives every single day.

Whether you've been fostering for six months or 35 years, what matters is the difference you make to children’s lives. Every story, every home, every act of care helps shape a better future for our young people."

This year, foster carers were honoured for five, ten, fifteen, and even 35 years of service. A special moment in the ceremony recognised Gaynor and Shaun Burrows, who have been fostering in Salford for 35 years—an inspiring achievement that reflects decades of dedication and love.

The event also celebrated newcomers making a big impact and those nominated by social workers for going above and beyond in their care
