Salford City Council has outlined plans for allocating the Government’s extension of the Household Support Fund (HSF), covering the period from Wednesday 1 October 2025 to Tuesday 31 March 2026.
This funding offers vital support to households facing cost-of-living pressure, particularly those struggling to afford essentials such as food, energy, and fuel.
In the previous funding round covering April 2025 to September 2025, the council received over 2,500 applications for support and provided 49,553 holiday food vouchers to families and children during school holidays.
Councillor Tracy Kelly, Lead Member for Housing and Anti-Poverty at Salford City Council, said: “The Household Support Fund is a vital resource for our community, especially as we head into the colder winter months. Our commitment in Salford is to ensure vulnerable residents are supported in the best way possible, and that our residents facing financial challenges receive the help they need. This latest funding round reinforces our ongoing effort to build a fairer, more inclusive society.”
The funding will be distributed by Salford City Council’s Salford Assist team. The funding will be awarded via shopping vouchers and fuel meter top ups to those who meet the eligibility criteria. Salford residents do not need to be in receipt of benefits to apply for the Household Support Fund and can apply for the scheme if they are also in receipt of other benefits and pension credits, all applications will be considered.
The allocated funding will be used to:
- Provide direct financial support to eligible residents to cover essential costs.
- Issue holiday food vouchers to children eligible for Free School Meals.
- Enable Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) partners to deliver food banks, food clubs, and food schemes.
- Support additional council services including housing and adult social care.
Salford City Mayor, Paul Dennett added: This fund has played a crucial role in providing essential support to our residents, helping with critical costs such as food and heating, and ensuring children do not go without food during school holidays. I want to reassure residents that help is available - I urge any resident facing financial difficulties to explore the support available through the Household Support Fund.”
This support forms part of Salford’s wider Tackling Poverty strategy which aims to make Salford a fairer and more inclusive place where everyone can live prosperous and fulfilling lives free from poverty and inequality. The funding has come from the Department for Work and Pensions.
