Work is now underway to transform the historic Adelphi Lads Club into 63 new homes for social rent, including 24 two-bedroom and 39 one-bedroom apartments at Cannon Street.

The £14.5 million ForHousing scheme, supported by £6.3 million funding from Homes England, is due for completion in Autumn 2026. The development will feature modern methods of construction (MMC) using light gauge steel frames to streamline the construction process and minimise on-site disruptions. Solar panels and EV chargers will also offset electricity usage and keep energy costs low for residents.

Designed to meet Future Homes Standards, the scheme also includes 20% local labour, apprenticeships, and contributions to local community groups.

To honour the site’s history, a commemorative plaque has been donated by Councillor Jane Hamilton. Originally from one of the club’s official openings, it will be featured next to the main entrance to ensure its legacy lives on.

Councillor Tracy Kelly, Statutory Deputy City Mayor and Lead Member for Housing and Anti-Poverty, said: “The Adelphi Lads Club has a rich history and holds a special place in the hearts of many in Salford – including myself. There is a real need for schemes such as these in our city and marks another positive step forward in providing housing that local people need and deserve.

“This transformation will provide high-quality and affordable homes for more people, and it’s fantastic to see works on the ground starting that will see the building’s story continue in a way that benefits our community.”

The project is being delivered in partnership with Beluga Group and Niemen Architects.
